Joining the Celebration of Chinese New Year with all of Tarakanita Gading Serpong

The Chinese new year is always a joyous celebration, especially with the bright red decorations and loud music. This year on Friday the 16th of February 2024, our school decided to celebrate it together. From kindergarteners, elementary schoolers, juniors, and senior highschoolers, we all gathered together to enjoy the fun atmosphere.

The event started with everyone lining up on the field waiting for each class to be seated. Then our MCs, Jenna and Arya, introduced all kinds of performances from each group. First up were the juniors. Two students named Elisabeth Melody and Luna Tanada sang a Mandarin song together in harmony. Then the kindergarteners did an amazing show of dance with fans. The group consisted of fifteen children and their outfits were just so adorable. I can see how much effort was made not only from the students, but from the parents as well who were standing by watching their kids perform and helping them get ready. The elementary schoolers were up next. A girl with great talent and confidence named Jocelyn Fidelia Yapni came to perform a song called 'Ting Wo Shuo Xie Xie'. It’s a song all about giving thanks to others and being appreciative to those around you. I was surprised to see such a young girl perform so well. She wasn't nervous and held her head high. Not to mention her singing was very soothing, I'm sure she has a great future ahead of her. The last performance was from the highschoolers. I was especially excited to see what they had in store and they did not disappoint. The high schoolers prepared a modern dance. Their movements were not just impressive, but also mesmerizing. I myself have seen many of the modern dance club’s performances and all of them always seemed to amaze no matter how many times i watch them.

After everyone finished their performances the most anticipated event came. The lion dance performance! Everyone was even more excited when the lion dance also included a dragon performance as well. The professional dancers performed beautifully to the beat of the drums. Three lions, dressed in red, pink, and yellow, strutted around collecting red envelopes while the students tried to fit them in their mouths, including me! Everyone had a good time and the students were all grateful that the school had given us a happy memory to treasure. (Paramitta Gloria X.4)
