Sampek and Engtay's Tragic Love Story

The Chinese New Year celebration has come and the school has prepared something interesting which is called TETRA Fest. It was held at the school's auditorium on Friday, February 16, 2024. The actors who play in the show vary from grade 10 to grade 12. The main characters are Sampek and Engtay. Then, there are also other characters, which are Sukiu (Sampek’s helper), Lini (Engtay’s helper), Macun (the guy who is matched to have an arranged marriage with Engtay), Kapten Liong (Macun’s father), Tuan Ciok and Nyonya Ciok (Engtay’s parents), the teacher, students, soldiers (for Macun and Engtay’s arranged wedding ceremony), and dancers (who became butterflies at the end of the show).

At the beginning, Macun went to Engtay’s house, and there it started, where they were arranged together for marriage. Engtay didn’t want to be with Macun because she didn’t truly love him and still wanted to learn. So, she was allowed to go to school again to learn, but the school is only for boys. Knowing that, Engtay and Lini dressed up and acted as boys so they could enter without being caught. 

On their way to the school, they met two guys who are also going to the same school as them, whose names are Sampek and Sukiu. From there, they figured out how to get to the school together. One night, they woke up and looked at the sky together. That night, Engtay confessed that she liked a guy, and because at that time, Sampek didn’t know that she was a girl, he thought that Engtay as a guy liked a girl, but Engtay was actually talking about Sampek. Not long after that, Engtay confessed to Sampek that she liked him and was actually a girl. Sampek was in shock, and he couldn’t believe it, but after some time of Engtay proving she was actually a girl, Sampek believed her and liked her too. 

Soon after that, Engtay got a letter from her father asking her to come home because he wanted Engtay to marry Macun. Then, before Engtay and Lini came home, Engtay asked Sampek to visit her on a specific date. Sampek agreed to visit her, but when he and Sukiu visited her, they were already too late because they got the specific date wrong, and Engtay had to marry Macun.

 As time went on, while Engtay had to prepare for her marriage with Macun, Sampek got depressed and sick, and nothing could heal him until he passed away and was buried. After that, the time has come for Macun and Engtay to get married. Engtay got on the bridal palanquin carried by the soldiers as they walked to the location for their wedding ceremony. 

On the way, Engtay asked for permission to get off the palanquin because she saw her friend’s grave, which is Sampek. Because Macun and his father, Kapten Liong, didn’t know that Engtay’s friend was Sampek, a guy who is loved dearly by Engtay, she was allowed to get off the palanquin. In front of Sampek’s grave, she did something that made the grave open, and then she jumped in. Kapten Liong was furious because the wedding was ruined. He asked the soldiers to dig the grave, but they only found two blue rocks. Not long after that, two beautiful butterflies came out and danced gracefully. The moral of the show is that love will always bring color to life. The show ended with a round of applause.
